Probate Services and Estate Administration

Obtaining a Grant of Probate personally can be a time consuming and stressful task. It involves an attendance at Court and court fees are higher for a personal application. Middleton & Upsall solicitors offer a service whereby we will prepare the papers leading to a Grant of Probate and make the application to the Court for you for a fixed fee.

For an estate with a value less than £325,000 the costs will be:-

Middleton & Upsall solicitors fees £325.00
VAT (currently 20%) £ 65.00
Probate Court fee (including 5 copies of the Grant) £ 45.00
Commissioner’s fees for swearing the papers (per Executor) £ 7.00
  £442.00

For an estate with a value over £325,000 the costs will be:-

Middleton & Upsall solicitors fees £600.00
VAT (currently 20%) £ 120.00
Probate Court fee (including 5 copies of the Grant) £ 45.00
Commissioner’s fees for swearing the papers (per Executor) £ 7.00
  £772.00

The fees quoted are for obtaining the Grant only and do not include acting in the full administration of the estate. We will require full information regarding assets and liabilities if the estate and will also need the death certificate and original Will, if there is one.

If you would like us to act for you in obtaining a Grant, or you would like a quote for us to act in the full administration of the estate, please contact Valerie King in our Warminster office on 019895 214444 or Joanna Damurakis in our Westbury office on 01373 865577, or email us at solicitors@mulaw.co.uk.

At Middleton & Upsall LLP we believe that the public has been given very misleading information about the costs charged by solicitors for the administration of estates when someone has died. We do not charge on a time basis plus a percentage value of the estate as is often stated. We will structure the cost according to your individual needs.
